Katie & Nick’s wedding day turned out to be one of the most beautiful days in January. Their soft decor theme that consisted of ivory and blush floral tones accented the cool colours outdoors and created a stunning winter wedding setting. They began with an afternoon indoor ceremony and we transitioned the space during photos for their evening reception that was full of dancing and beautiful sunsets.

“We wanted a mixture of big wedding and intimate wedding so we had a forest ceremony for 150 people in North Vancouver, then just immediate family and the bridal party went for a family dinner at Edible Canada on Granville Island. We still wanted to have a big reception with all our important people there so UBC Boathouse was the perfect venue for our reception. The venue spoke for itself so we were able to keep décor to a minimum. All décor and florals were done by me (but I kept it simple!). UBC Boathouse was a beautiful, open and airy space that we were able to configure to perfectly fit our “non-traditional” reception-only use of the space. We did social tables and had everyone mixing and mingling. We loved that we were able to bring in our own alcohol to keep costs down. The scenery was stunning and our guests loved taking pictures out on the deck with the sun setting. The UBC Boathouse was a breeze to work with and made our life easy. It was wonderful being able to take photos in the outdoor space. The most memorable part at the Boathouse was dancing the night away with our favourite people in a beautiful setting! The less traditional forest ceremony and intimate dinner were also favourite parts of our day, but we were so happy to find an affordable and aesthetically pleasing space for the reception.” – Jessica & Sean

“We choose Isaac Wray Photography as he was recommended by one of UBC Boathouse’s preferred photographers, and he had shot a few weddings at UBC boathouse before, he loved nature photography so he was a good fit for us as we wanted a forest ceremony.
We choose Emelle’s Catering because they were a preferred caterer that was within our budget and we were sold after going for a tasting. We weren’t doing a formal sit down dinner – our goal was to have enough appetizers and variety to please all of guests – they did a great job of working with us to make that vision a reality.” – Jessica & Sean
Cecily & Ryan were married on one of the most gorgeous days of September. The sun came out just for their wedding day and they had a dream team of vendors to make their day everything they both had envisioned…
“One of the reasons we chose the UBC Boathouse was the fact that we would be able to have our ceremony right on the water. That was definitely #1 for us. We were looking at several other outdoor venues, but we both really liked the inside layout and also having the bar outdoor on the upstairs patio was a plus. Also, the venue was the perfect space for the amount of guests we had. UBC Boathouse was the first venue we looked at and we pretty much knew that first day, it would be the place for us.
For look and feel of our wedding, we really wanted to highlight the outdoor views around us. We tried to keep everything clean, simple and minimal and it turned out great. With the water and mountain views it provided great backdrops for some awesome photos.
The whole night was memorable. The outdoor bar and dancing throughout the night was definitely a hit. We were worried that it might’ve rained since it was wet then entire week leading up to our wedding day, but it turned out to be perfect that day. Also, the fact that UBC Boathouse was able to accommodate an indoor ceremony in case for rain was also a factor in choosing this venue….being able to make the decision up until a few hours before the ceremony gave us that peace of mind.” – Cecily & Ryan

“As far as vendors went, we looked at the Preferred Vendor List provided by the UBC Boathouse and after a few tastings, we chose Savoury City Catering. Not only was the food was really good, Joey, our coordinator, was also very awesome to deal with. He was able to provide a custom menu based on our preferences but also work within our budget as well. His service throughout the entire process was above our expectations. From our first meeting until the end of the night, his service was top notch and he definitely made the entire process very easy for us.
Cakewalk Media Inc., was recommended by a few friends and the we loved their vision and creativity. They were very fun to deal with. Young, Hip and Married, was recommended by our sister-in-law who used them for her wedding. They personalized the ceremony based on our preferences and they were very open to all our ideas. Lonsdale Event Rentals, our coordinator was very professional and was able to provide.
The entire UBC Boathouse Day-of Venue Coordinator was also very helpful throughout the entire night. We were both very happy with the courtesy and professionalism they showed that night. Their team was extremely helpful towards the end of the night as well. We will definitely be recommending this venue to all our friends for their weddings as well. It was overall a great and memorable experience. Thank you UBC Boathouse Team!” – Cecily & Ryan.

Kristyn & Richard’s wedding theme was a laid back summer’s night. Their wedding day had beautiful weather and was just stunning! They chose the UBC Boathouse for it’s simplicity and beautiful views. They have both attended a wedding here in the past and when they began their search for a venue, it was the one.
“We didn’t even need to view any other venues, our minds were already made up within two and a half weeks of being engaged, we booked our spot. We loved the floor to ceiling windows inside the venue with the gorgeous wood floors and exposed wood beam ceiling – which right away I could envision the are bulb strong lights hanging which would pull together that outdoor summer wedding feel.
Another feature we absolutely loved was being able to have our ceremony and cocktail hour outdoors on the dock giving our wedding that outdoor wedding feel. Having our Ceremony and Cocktail hour out on the docks was something that was so unique to any other wedding venue we researched. The guests loved to enjoy one of the first warm summer days out on the water with a special Bar set up right on the docks. The hall upstairs was the perfect and easiest transition to the Reception, and watching the sunset through those floor to ceiling windows made the summer night feel like it was never going to end. The sun set right as it was time to get on the dance floor and dancing our way late into the night was the perfect way to end our Wedding. It was a day we will never forget!” – Kristyn & Richard.

“We selected our vendors by the UBC Boathouse’s preferred vendors list and by referrals from friends and family. Our vendors on site were Ritz Catering, Straight Up Bar Services, Imagine that Events and DJ Hot Wax – which we chose all from the preferred list and I am so happy that we did! Not only were they all super familiar with the logistics of the venue but they had all worked with each other several times in the past and coordinated with each other so perfectly and without my direction. All the vendors were great with all my little requests, personal touches and last minute emails and phone calls. All our guests had nothing but good things to say about the venue, food, bar and music, and we were so happy with how the whole night turned out.
Our photographer, Taya Photography, was excited to shoot our wedding at the UBC Boathouse as she see’s it as one of the best indoor venue’s for natural light” – Kristyn & Richard.

Ainsley and Chris were married on a gorgeous day in early September. Ainsley and Chris had many aspects that made their wedding day special and they say it best…
“We both grew up in the Vancouver area and we wanted a venue for our wedding that would highlight Vancouver’s natural beauty. The UBC Boathouse’s setting on the Fraser River and its spectacular views of the North Shore Mountains made it the ideal location for us. Our 5:00 p.m. ceremony on the dock in front of the water, greenery, and mountain backdrop was a perfect reflection of why we love the Lower Mainland.
The indoor event hall is sleek and modern, and the floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful stained wood meant that minimal décor was required. We wanted a venue that could accommodate our big families and large circle of friends, and the UBC Boathouse’s open space full of natural light was large enough to accommodate our guests and still feel intimate.
We were lucky enough to have our family involved in helping us plan and prepare for our wedding. Our centerpieces, candy bar, and wedding party bouquets were all made by family. The wedding cake made by Ainsley’s cousin, Lucie Radcliffe, was a delicious three-tiered, nine-layered vanilla almond pound cake with almond buttercream , laden with pure 24 karat gold foil.” Ainlsey & Chris
Taya of Taya Photography must have fairy dust. Ainsley & Chris’s day was stunning and even more stunning are the memories these two now have of their wedding day. She did an unbelievable job capturing their day and found unique photo locations in both Vancouver and Richmond for their first look and wedding party photos.

“Ritz Catering provided appetizers during the cocktail hour and a buffet dinner during the reception, and Straight Up Bar Services ran the bar. The servers and staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious.
Our day-of-coordinator was Anna of Perfectly Flawless Events. Anna was very organized, professional and made sure that the wedding ran smoothly by coordinating with our vendors before the wedding, directing them when they arrived and helping to set-up, and making sure that we followed our timeline.
Our goal was to have a wedding that was fun, stress-free, and memorable, and having a live band was a huge part of that. SideOne had everyone on the dance floor all night long, and they helped turn the reception into an unforgettable party. They were great to work with and were extremely accommodating. One of the highlights of the night was when Chris joined the band for a surprise performance on the drums to play Highway to Hell.
Taya of Taya Photography did an amazing job, and we could not be happier with our wedding photos. She was easygoing and fun to work with, and she captured all of the best moments of our wedding. Her focus on natural light made for beautiful photographs both before the ceremony at Jack Poole Plaza and Iona Beach in Richmond, and at sunset on the UBC Boathouse dock.
Noel Blain was the videographer. Noel’s final video was great, and the highlights that he chose will allow us to relive our wedding for years to come.” – Ainsley & Chris
