Understated Romance – Alyssa & Keith – Nov 10, 2012

Keith & Alyssa’s November wedding ceremony&reception was focused on family and love but incorporated a romantic flair with deep red rose bouquet’s, saturdated tablescapes, and a night view as their ceremony & reception backdrop. “Keith and I wanted an evening wedding with candlelight, good music, dancing, and good food” – Alyssa. Keith & Alyssa dreamed of a small wedding out of town but quickly realized how important it was to incorporate all of their loved family and friends in their special beginning.

“It was important to us that our guests enjoyed themselves so we incorporated special touches such as a red rose with their name as a place card, champagne to sip on during our ceremony, and a popcorn bar they could help themselves to throughout the evening as our thank you” – Alyssa. The couple opted for a harvest style reception having the head table in the middle of the room with the guest tables clustered around them in order to be closer to one another. “We wanted our wedding to be understated and elegant, but also feel like a party we would host at our home and we succeeded!” – Alyssa. Keith & Alyssa successfully captured their warm romance with an evening wedding that was nothing short of enchanting.

Elliott at DJ Hot Wax made an impression on Alyssa and Keith, “I felt like he tried to get to know us to match our music tastes. Our wedding guests raved about the music. Since our wedding, two of our guests have booked with them” -Alyssa. Hot Wax ensured their celebration was memorable, “it was very important to both Keith and I that the music was good, we were thrilled by our choice of going with Hot Wax” – Alyssa.

Imagine That Events infused saturated greys and reds into their decor to reflect Alyssa’s vision of a close-family affair. “Sharon and Laura did an exceptional job putting all of the details together” – Alyssa.

Meant to Be – Miho & Christopher – Oct 28, 2012

Miho & Christopher have known each other since elementary school and began their marriage with a ceremony here at the UBC Boathouse. It rained the entire week leading up to their special day but the clouds parted and the sun came through just in time. “We chose the UBC Boathouse because of the modern look and the large windows the building has. We’re big fans of modern, contemporary architecture so it was an easy choice for us. Also, there was lots of parking so this was another main reason we chose to get married here” – Miho.

“Our wedding theme was to keep the space simple and clean. We wanted to showcase the interior space and the exterior views the building had to offer, so we kept decorations to a minimum” – Miho. Miho & Christopher accomplished this vision with soft greys and pinks as their wedding colours and DIY decor.

Miho and Christopher chose one of our favourite photographers, StonePhoto (Kat&Dan). “We had experience taking photos with them when we were bridesmaids/groosmen for Christopher’s cousin’s wedding the previous year. We’re not too comfortable taking romantic or passionate photos, so it was great that Kat & Dan kept this in mind when they made suggestions. We would recommend them to anyone looking for a great photographer!” – Miho.

A Fairy Tale Wedding – Chesea & Jeremy – Oct 7, 2012

Chelsea & Jeremy knew they wanted nothing more than to be married and decided to wed in October, only 5 months after their Disneyland engagement in May. Regardless of the short engagement they managed to hit all of the stops, having their ceremony at the Minoru Chapel and celebrate their wedding celebration here at the UBC Boathouse. “If I had known we were going to get such nice weather in October, I would have had our ceremony outdoors at the UBC Boathouse as well. We were lucky that we were all able to marvel at the orange, pink, and gold sunset over the river” – Chelsea. They wanted a fun, bright wedding that reflected their personalities had their vendors ensured this dream came true.

Due to Chelsea & Jeremy’s very short engagement, Chelsea knew a wedding planner was essential and chose one of our preferred planners & decorators, Fairy Godmother Weddings. “We clicked with Jordan from Fairy Godmother Weddings from our very first meeting; she was professional, approachable, and very calm about the task ahead!” – Chelsea. Fairy Godmother Weddings has expert knowledge and several contacts in the industry which resulted in a smooth wedding day for the couple. “It went just as smoothly as she promised it would” – Chelsea.

“We chose Savoury Chef to caterer our wedding reception as we wanted to represent the best of BC and they have great dedication to working with local suppliers” – Chelsea. Savoury Chef made Chelsea & Jeremy’s wedding planning process a breeze with quick responses, tastings, and a family-style service to allow for all of their guests to eat at the same time. “The first bites during our tasting sealed the deal and the portion sizes were perfect” – Chelsea.

Summer Dream – Denise & Noel – Aug.19.2012

Denise & Noel had an absolutely stunning summer wedding, captured by The Apartment Photography. Their special day resembled what one can only dream of for their wedding! Denise & Noel chose to celebrate their marriage at the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse because we can accommodate both ceremony and receptions due to our large outdoor dock situated right on the water. “We were looking for an outdoor setting that incorporated both our personalities, Noel being more outdoorsy and myself being more urbanized. When we stepped into the event space it felt like it combined both of our visions perfectly. It was love at first sight!” – Denise.

Denise & Noel had their wedding ceremony on our lower docks beneath August sun rays and the stunning backdrop of the Fraser River. Their guests moved up to our event hall for their evening reception hosted by The Butler Did It Catering, to celebrate the occasion! Their wedding day was spectacular and the couple looked beautiful… definitely a day to reminisce about for years to come.
