What better way to ring in the New Year with than by marking the beginning of a new life together? Jena and Corrado were married on New Year’s Eve as a way of celebrating their life together and the start of their marriage.
We asked the couple how they met:
Jena, fresh from Montreal, was walking down Commercial Drive in Vancouver when she saw an ad in the window of a small Italian restaurant. Looking for work, she returned that night and was hired… by Corrado. Within a week of work, Jena was telling her friends she was in love with her boss.
The couple shares a love of great food and so it was fitting that they were engaged at the Dirty Apron Cooking School, where Corrado made a surprise proposal to Jena.
Their UBC Boathouse Wedding Reception was a testament to their passion for cuisine, with a tasty spread by The Butler Did It Catering. We agree with Jena that “it was the perfect night, a great party and a New Years that will be remembered by all our guests for years to come!”

Kathryn and Mark were engaged while snowshoeing in Edmonton – in -32 degrees Celsius and 4 feet of snow! An Alberta wedding seemed inevitable for these two Albertans, but when they moved to Vancouver, they fell in love with their new life together on the West Coast. The UBC Boathouse was the perfect venue to showcase BC’s beauty and bring together their guests from all over the globe.
In predictable West Coast fashion, the wedding day was remarkably wet and windy. But just as the bride began to walk down the aisle, the sun appeared and the hall flooded with light. The two were wed in front of a West Coast backdrop and a blue sky reminiscent of their Albertan roots.

While it may feel like a sweet retreat, there’s no reason to feel disconnected with complimentary wifi and an ipad in every room (or a smartphone in some). The hotel even offers complimentary luxury hotel car service, chauffer service for drop-off within downtown and use of their mountain bikes/cruisers – all great ways to get out and explore the city!
However, if your wedding party opts to stay in after celebrating late into the night, 24 hour in-room dining (by award-winning chefs) and a leisurely check out time of 1pm are sure to be crowd-pleasers.

It’s always lovely to see weddings that reflect the personalities of the couple getting married. On September 7th, 2013 we had precisely such a wedding, when Jillian and John tied the knot here at the UBC Boathouse. Their summer décor and playful catering illustrated their relationship perfectly: We are truly best friends who make each other laugh every single day.
We asked Jillian to share more of their story with us:
One Friday evening, John came home from work in a hurry to get changed and back out the door to play in a game with his hockey team. He asked if I wanted to head out and grab dinner quickly before his game and I agreed. Waiting for him at the door, John rushed around to gather his gear. When he was finally ready, I turned to open the door only to hear him say “Wait, one second.” Thinking he simply forgot something, I thought nothing of it. But when I turned around, he was down on one knee! I was laughing and crying, and saying yes a hundred times. It was perfect!
The UBC Boathouse was the one and only venue we looked at when deciding where to get married. It was the perfect setting for our day!

Dan and Paul’s June wedding was a worldly adventure. They traveled a great distance to host their ceremony and reception here, at the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse and their guests flew from all over the world to join them.
In the midst of a rainy week, the clouds broke and the sun shone through just in time for their special day. With Vancouver at its best, their long travels to Vancouver were worth it. Their day was breathtakingly picturesque, with the North Shore mountains and Fraser River as their ceremony backdrop and their travel theme coming to life with planes flying over head.
Dan & Paul were fortunate to have Dan’s sister Allison capture their day herself, creating long lasting memories for us all to enjoy!
