One of the #1 questions we receive from couples is where to take bridal photos and family photos nearby. My favourite advice to give couples is to work with your photographer as the photographer you hire will often scout locations that they feel will have good lighting at the time you are taking these photos and will have either architecture or scenery that inspires them. If your photographer is inspired, that means brilliant photos! Therefore, I always recommend entrusting within them and letting their magic happen! Below we have compiled stunning nearby “photo locations” that previous couples and photographers have chosen.
#1. The UBC Boathouse
There are many locations right at the UBC Boathouse that offer either architectural or scenic backdrops. Here are some of the most unique photos we have seen. There are so many beautiful spots in and around the property that we have broken down the locations for you:
#2. The Richmond Dike Way
The UBC Boathouse connects to the Richmond Dike Way that spans from just out front our building, all the way to Steveston. Many of these photos were taken just outside the UBC Boathouse so, these couples didn’t travel far.
#3. No. 2 Road Bridge
Photos beneath a bridge are stunning and offer cover in less than ideal weather!
#4. The Richmond Oval
The Richmond Oval offers architecture with its large overhang (providing cover from the elements) and within its parking lot below. There is also a lot of nature around the Oval providing scenic backdrops.
#5. Terra Nova Rural Park
A woodsy vibe can be achieved here! Terra Nova Park has tall, mature trees and offers a cabin in the woods feel.
#6. Iona Beach
The UBC Boathouse is fully floating, so there is no shortage of waterfront views. To continue this theme head to nearby Iona Beach, this location is gorgeous year-round.
#7. Downtown – Jack Poole Plaza
If you are doing a first-look before your ceremony at the UBC Boathouse, you may have time to take some photos downtown. Jack Poole Plaza offers waterfront views, covered architectural areas with the Convention Centre and city landscapes.
#8. Private Residence
#10. Minoru Park
The secret garden. This park is well known but feels like a hidden gem. This location offers many scenic backdrops including the picturesque Minoru Chapel, small ponds and open fields with umbrella trees.
That’s a wrap!
