We were so excited to be a part of Lauren & Dustin’s special day. Their team of vendors, Savoury City, Fairy Godmother Weddings, James Moes Photography, Trove Vintage Rentals, Olla Urban Flower Project, and DJ Thomas Maxey made their day magical from west coast cuisine to romantic vintage decór, which perfectly reflected their whirlwind friendship and romance leading up to this day. Their Story? Lauren tells it best… “Dustin and I met during our second year of undergrad while attending university in Montreal, QC. Starting out as just friends, it wasn’t until Dustin spent an arduous summer tree planting that we missed each other a little too much and soon the “I love yous” were flying. Our years in Montreal were magical ones, spent gallivanting around the gorgeous city, enjoying French bistros, cycling through the Vieux Port and relishing in afternoon picnics. We then joined the real world and found work in Ottawa but missed metropolitan city life so decided to relocate to Toronto. A year or so later, I found out I had been accepted to the London School of Economics in London, UK. So we packed up again, this time for a year across the pond. We decided to stay in Europe over Christmas and ended up enjoying the festive season in Paris, France. On Christmas night after our first try at cooking a French goose (!), Dustin insisted we head up to the Sacre Coeur to take in the incredible views of the City of Love. While this spot is a typcial tourist haven, we found ourselves completely alone. Before I knew it Dustin was on one knee and presented me a beautiful English antique engagement ring. I (obviously) said yes. We spent the rest of the year basking in that very special moment. Oh, and planning a wedding! Picking a place to get married wasn’t easy, him being from Ontario and I from British Columbia. Unsurprisingly, mountains meeting oceans won and we settled on Vancouver as the place for our wedding. We searched for a venue that was a blank slate so we could see our specific wedding vision realized. As we quickly learned, this is no easy task in Vancouver. Thankfully, we were luckily enough to stumble across the UBC Boathouse and even more thankfully, they had a Saturday available in July 2012” – Lauren

John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse: “From start to finish, the service I received from the UBC Boathouse was top notch. Sharon and her team do all they can to ensure that on your special day you are only thinking about the things that matter and not worrying about little stressful details. They work seamlessly with vendors and were great about recommending great people to make our wedding the best it could be. They’ve done it all before, are open to all ideas and will do all they can to accomodate you. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. The floor to ceiling windows add an openness and view that will absolutely wow your guests. If weather permits, getting married on the dock is fab option (what we did) and felt very intimate. Having the deck off the main ballroom is a great option for a bar and for providing your guests a cool rest from all the dancing! We had the absolute best day – I never wanted it to end and it was in large part of the classy, accomodating staff at the UBC Boathouse” – Lauren. Savoury City Catering: “Where do I even begin…Donna and her team are a DREAM. We knew that food is where we wanted to spend the majority of our budget. We had a lot of people coming in from out of town and wanted to make sure that our wedding reflected our backdrop – that included celebrating West Coast cuisine. Donna got our vision right from the start and bascially has become a part of our family. We still talk about her fennel poached prawns, salmon lollipops and sage, brown butter ghnocchi but what makes her the most special is the love she puts into her work and her 100% commitment to ensure you are happy. If I lived in Vancouver I would use Savoury City to cater every event I had control over and am currently lobbying Savoury City to expand nation-wide…” – Lauren. Fairy Godmother Weddings: “The name says it all, FGW really are your wedding fairy godmothers. These gals are ready for ANYTHING and give you such incredible peace of mind on your day. They make sure everything runs smoothly and if anything goes wrong they ensure you never know about it because it is swiftly fixed before you could even notice. I wish I could hire these women for my everyday life. Let me give you one small exmaple, I unfortunately got a small tear in my dress (from some risky but worth it photo poses). When I arrived at the Boathouse, Jordan met me with needle and thread in hand, sewed me up before I even had time to think about it….don’t even bother having a wedding without them” – Lauren. James Moes Photography: “You can tell just by looking through James’ website, this man knows how to work a camera. His photos capture all the beauty of the day but this is not your regular poisey wedding photographer. His photos encapsulate real moments, real feelings and are just downright gorgeous. He is also a dream to work with and made even the most camera shy feel comfortable. Man also knows how to bust a move on the dancefloor so nothing is missed” – Lauren.
